Avoid Being a Victim to a Car Break-in

With the holidays behind us and a new year in full force, we wanted to take some time and remind everyone to watch their surroundings. Crime is and will always be a problem we deal with. With COVID-19 having many businesses shut down right now, people are out of work and could be looking for easy targets to make a gain off of.

Here are some tips that can help you stay ahead and safe.

  • Do not leave valuables in your vehicle
    • Leaving valuables in your vehicle makes for the easiest targets. Remember always to clear out your car anytime you make it to your destination. Valuables can be taken with the simple pick of a lock or shattering of a window. A list of things to not leave behind could include:
      • Cell Phones
      • Wallets
      • Purses
      • Sunglasses or Jewelry
      • Expensive Speakers
  • Park Somewhere safe
    • The best place to park your vehicle is in your garage. Parking in a garage protects you from not only theft but also severe weather. If you do not have immediate access to a garage, maybe consider installing a camera overlooking your driveway just for reassurance or even parking somewhere that is in a well-lit area.
  • Always lock your doors
    • Sometimes we get so caught up in our day to day that we forget to do the simplest things, like lock our car doors. Before heading into your house, always remember to click that lock button a time or two.
  • Report suspicious activity
    • If something feels off about your surrounding area, take note of who and what is around and then report it to the police. Reporting the activity may be what keeps you and your neighbors safe.
