A Fresh Identity for a Growing Community

What was once known as Crandall Middle School now proudly carries a new name: Heartland Middle School. This change reflects more than a new name on the sign—it represents a deeper connection to the families, students, and neighbors who make up our thriving Heartland Texas community.

As the school shared in their announcement: “One team, one mission, one community.” The new identity solidifies the strong partnership between Crandall ISD and the Heartland Texas neighborhood, ensuring students feel at home both in their classrooms and in their community.

Why the Name Matters

For years, the middle school has been a cornerstone of family life in Heartland. With students walking, biking, and riding from right here in the neighborhood, the school has always been close by—but now, with its new name, it officially belongs to the community it serves.

The name Heartland Middle School is a symbol of pride, belonging, and unity. Students can now say with confidence that they attend school in Heartland, representing not just a district, but the community they call home.

A Campus Built for Success

While the name is new, the campus itself continues to shine as one of Crandall ISD’s most innovative facilities. Built to inspire collaboration, creativity, and achievement, the school offers:

A gymnasium/auditorium hybrid with seating for nearly 1,900, perfect for performances, games, and large gatherings.

A double-sided stage connecting the gym and cafeteria for seamless events.

Flexible learning labs that can transform into science labs, maker spaces, or computer labs depending on student needs.

A distributed library concept, with resources visible and accessible across the student commons.

These features ensure that Heartland Middle School is more than a place to learn—it’s a space designed for growth and exploration.

Leadership with Heart

Guiding the school through this exciting transition is Principal Michael Starling, a dedicated educator who has been with Crandall ISD since 2019. With experience as both an assistant principal and principal at the elementary level, Mr. Starling brings passion, compassion, and vision to Heartland Middle School. His leadership ensures that students not only succeed academically but also feel supported and valued every step of the way.

One Team. One Mission. One Community.

The rebranding from Crandall to Heartland Middle School is more than symbolic—it’s a promise. A promise that the school and community will continue to work together to give students the best possible foundation for their futures.

This campus is more than a school; it’s the heartbeat of the neighborhood. The name Heartland Middle School now reflects that reality, uniting students, families, and the wider community under one identity.
